Happy 1st Birthday to us!

Posted By on December 1, 2010

Today, the 1st of December 2010 we have been open 1 year, and this first year has been totally amazing!

Its still hard to believe 12 months have passed so quickly , quite scary infact, still as the saying goes ‘time flies when your having fun’! and even though we are running a business it has not felt like it, surely going to work everyday of the week with no days off would become a chore but i can honestly say that everyday has been fun, yes its hard work and very long hours but being with your doggies has made everyday a real pleasure, i look forward to what each day brings as no two days are the same, well they are in some respects in the fact i know i will have a great time, that i will laugh alot and continually smile throughout the day and thats all down to caring for your loveable, funny, nutty, mad, looney, loopy, cuddly and sweet doggies!

From the bottom of my heart i thank everyone that has entrusted us with their beautiful dogs, and i really hope your doggies had a great stay with us and i also thankyou for giving us a wonderful 1st year, for all your kind words , the support you have given us and sharing your doggies with us, this was once a dream and now im living my dream, yes i do pinch myself now and then, im am the luckiest person alive, i love my job, when i think about all the people stuck in offices, on trains/tubes, stuck in traffic on the motorway etc i look around and what do i see?…….. doggies looking back at me with happy tails wagging or watching them running through meadows , strolling through the woods, even when its bitterly cold like now i still love to be outside making sure all the doggies in my care are happy and loved, then coming back and getting them all snug and comfy in their beds.

It has been a real honor and pleasure to care for your doggies, so once again Thankyou so much for choosing us, and from all of us here at Crabbs Green Farm ,we really hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New Year, and may all your hopes and dreams come true…………..Mine did!!!!

Christmas Time (already!)

Posted By on September 27, 2010

Its not that long now til the festive season, can’t believe it, where has the other months gone!  walking round Tesco the other day i noticed mince pies, stollen and selection boxes were already out, sometimes wish these supermarkets would hold out a little longer til they started displaying their festive goods, maybe its just me, but they seem to get muddled in the line up, surely Halloween stuff should come first, then the bonfire night, then once that out the way start with the Christmas stuff, children all over the land start getting excited about Christmas and starting now gives them such a huge wait, plus gives us headaches with christmas wish lists!

Thinking about Christmas, we only have 2 rooms left for the christmas holidays, owners had made the decision to book early to make sure their doggies had their holiday here, and right they were too, some even booked christmas in spring! so as i said, as of this moment in time we only have 2 rooms left, so if you wish for your doggies to share christmas with us now is the time to book, i love christmas and your doggies will be completely involved, Christmas stocking (of which Santa will leave goodies), Christmas dinner (if allowed) festive music, tree, lights and long christmas walks, and best of all and something that always feels special to me is moonlight walks on Christmas eve,( praying for a crisp night with beautiful full moon and if it snowed, that would just make it perfect!!) .

New Years eve/day we have 4 spaces at mo, please remember that double nightly fee’s are on Christmas day, Boxing Day and New Years day, and we are not open for viewings, collections or drop off’s on Christmas day, Boxing Day or New Years Day,  so please bear that in mind when booking, thankyou for your understanding.

WE NOW ONLY HAVE 1 ROOM LEFT FOR CHRISTMAS ITSELF, WE DO HAVE OTHER DATES AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER .

‘Do we bring our dog’s food?’

Posted By on August 31, 2010

Here at Crabbs Green Farm we supply a range of foods, we had to think long and hard about this as there is a huge amount of dog foods on the market, but we have chosen what we think are the most popular, and in addition what we think are good foods.

We can’t stock every brand it would be impossible, so below is what we do stock:

BURNS , ARDEN GRANGE (including pup, Arden Grange is my personal favorite, we feed our own dogs on this)  , HILLS DRY , ROYAL CANIN , EUKENUBA  , IAMS,  PEDIGREE COMPLETE AND TINNED, CHAPPIE COMPLETE AND TINNED, BETA , SUPADOG , JAMES WELLBELOVED , MAC COMPLETE AND TINNED ( if we ever find a doggy has gone off their food we mix in a small amount of the meat, it works everytime!), EVERYDAY DOG MIXER AND TINNED MEAT IN JELLY, EVERDAY DOG GOLD COMPLETE, SYMPLY ,  NATURE DIET MEAT (most flavors, fantastic for sensitive tums, our own dogs also have this, ice our malamute loves the salmon and prawn) , WE ALSO KEEP FROZEN TRIPE AND ALSO NATURAL INSTINCTS RAW FOOD, We provide all bowls for your dog, but if you wish them to use their own bowls thats fine, if possible please put names on them.

If your doggy has a different food and you wish them to stay on that diet then please supply, you can choose whats nearest to the food you give them, but only do this if you know that their tummy won’t be affected by change, we also supply bickies, but you are welcome to bring any additional foods/treats you would like your doggy to have while here, lots of owners bring ham, cooked chicken in portions, cubed cheese, yoghurt, cooked lamb in portions, gravy, rice, eggs, tuna, sardines, smoked salmon, trout, caviar, digestive biscuits, dentasticks, bones……… the list goes on!  whatever you supply we will give to your dog when you want them to have it,  just give me a note telling me when.

Hope this has answered your questions on feeding , but please feel free to contact me if you have any worries about the feeding side of things .

TIP: Does you dog leak wee wee on their bed?

Posted By on July 21, 2010

Do you find yourself throwing beds away because your doggy leaks wee, and you can only wash the cover and not the filling? well try this idea, buy some puppy training pads, you can get different sizes, and place inside between the cover and filling, this way if they do leak the pads will absorb the wee and not soak into filling, then all you need to do is change the pad when needed and wash cover, this should make the bed last longer and smell alot better!

My message to all the kids of the family, (big or small!)

Posted By on July 7, 2010

Hi kids, i know how it feels when your mum and dad plan a holiday and your all excited until they say ‘ and we must book the dog into kennels’! if you are like me when i was a kid its your worst nightmare ever! but mum i would plead, they will hate it, they will be locked up all the time, and who’s gonna play with them, who’s gonna give them cuddles, and they will forget all the tricks i’ve taught them, they will be lonely and cry! and your mum and dad say ‘they will be fine’ but you have already made your mind up that they are going to have the worst time ever.

Then its the day you have to take your best friend to the horrible prison, you already hate the people at the kennels before you have even met them!( well i did) you hand over your best friend and burst into tears, you leave being dragged away by your mum or dad, and sit in silence all the way home.

Please please don’t be afraid, cause even though im grown up i still have the kid in me! your best friend will hopefully become one of my best friends and i will love and cuddle them so much that they won’t feel lonely or scared, and as for all the tricks you have taught them, you tell me and show me and i will make sure they practice everyday and maybe even learn a few more as a surprise for you when you get back!, when you go on holiday i promise to you that your doggy will have an awesome time here, football, fetch, swimming, chasing rabbits, tug or war, hide and seek and lots more!  you can send your doggy emails or postcards and i will make sure they get them, i can even send you emails and pictures of them on their holiday,so just think about it, and maybe, just maybe you will feel a bit better about being apart, come and see me and tell me all about your dog and what you do together, and who knows, you may even get to like us a bit!!

Sam x

‘You must be MAD!!’

Posted By on July 3, 2010

I have so many people ask me when they come to view, ‘you must be mad!’ all the dogs barking, getting soaked in pond water then bathing them ,what makes you want to do this? Simple really, i love dogs!

The dogs only bark when there are viewings, its a case of stranger stranger or new dog!, oh and meal times can be an exciting time, but most of the time everyone is happy, regulars know us, and newcomers get to know who is supposed to be in and out very quickly, but Mr fox can sometimes stir everyone up a bit, but once all the dogs have said their bit and seen him off, job done and everyone settles, as for pond water, nothing a shower can’t fix for me and the dogs !

At the moment i have some beautiful dogs holidaying, Rudi & Blue….. black labs, Paddy.. Giant schnauzer, Stanley……Basset griffon vendeen, Alfie……golden retriever, Murphy…….golden retriever, Holly……..choc lab puppy, Dublin….. xbreed, Polly & Nobby………pointer & lakeland terrier, they are all great dogs and so much fun to be with, and have been on some really fun walks, and had lots of fun and games, so am i mad to be doing this or just lucky?  will let you be the judge of that!

Wish i was a dog!

Posted By on June 28, 2010

All our doggy guests and my own dogs have enjoyed the coolness of the ponds, some swim round and explore the island while others just lay with their heads just above the water, and in this hot weather i too feel very tempted to have a dip, but unlike the dogs im always thinking what is beneath the surface, im the type who hates dark waters, have to have a firm bottom to tread on with nothing to grab my feet like weed etc, at this moment in time i wish i was a dog, so i could go swimming, they are having fun and staying cool at the same time, i might as well have gone in as most of them have shook all over me, but the hose pipe will have to do me for now!

We did have a rowing boat of which was great fun and my lab welly loved going round the pond with me in this boat, but sadly the seams split and we started sinking, of which welly abandoned ship, and left me to get back to the bank alone!  im on the look out for one of those flat bottom fibreglass type, if you know of anyone who is selling one i would be interested.

Midge the border terrier has also enjoyed sitting in my water feature, a large metal trough with a mock well pump that sits outside of reception, she just looked so cute sitting there.

Sad news came from my mum and dad last night, they had to let Buddy their St Bernard go into forever sleep, he was 10 years old which is a good age for a St Bernard, and he had great life in spain and was never ill,  he was put on heart tabs about a month ago and perked up a bit, but it all came to head yesterday, he was finding it very hard to breathe and started losing blood from his mouth, they called the vet and sadly they had to let him go, my mum phoned me in bits while my dad and vet were in the other room, my mum couldn’t face it. He is now buried near his friends in the garden, my dad understandably is crushed as Buddy was more his dog, but hopefully Brie, Summer & Saffy their lab girls will help them through it., Buddy was one in million and we will all miss him very much x

Too Hot To Trot!

Posted By on June 21, 2010

Never happy, too hot, too cold, why can’t we just have inbetween!

Just got back from a long walk with Mozart a chocolate lab, now he is ball mad and will run round in circles until you throw the ball, but like me poor Mozart is feeling the heat, so we have just been walking slowly in the shade of the trees, but my face has still been sweating and every bug you can think of has stuck to it!    Mozart is ok as he has just had a dip in the pond and looks all refreshed and now on his bed with his beloved tennis ball , its feels nice to be in the coolness of the kennels! Arthur the big chunky monkey of a staff is next for walkies, will hose him off when we get back, he not much of a swimmer, but he does enjoy being soaked by hose pipe, and Millie the black lab is laying in the shade under the big tree in the paddock fast asleep, she enjoys having her afternoon nap there, she has made that her spot!

Lottie the bedlington terrier went home this morning, i really enjoyed her company and her cheeky monkey antics , she has made me laugh so much , really going to miss her!
